Dorene has been in the consignment business for over 30 years, and a member of National Association of Retail & Thrift Stores (NARTS) for the past 15 years. She got her start in the business as a Woman’s organization volunteer, then opened several consignment shops in the Tidewater area for the charity. She quickly gained recognition and became the National Organization’s retail enterprise chair, with a chain of over 40 Thrift & Consignment stores.
Dorene acquired 2nd ACT in 2007, when the charity could no longer attract a sufficient volunteer base to run the store. Since then she’s grown 2nd ACT from just a simple women’s clothing store to an expansive storefront occupying over 10,000 square feet that also showcases furniture, collectibles, artwork and antiques. Also during her tenure, 2nd ACT has twice won The Best of Norfolk Award for the Best Antique Store as well as earning Silver Status as one of the best consignment stores in the Hampton Roads area.
Dorene absolutely loves what she does! It shows in the way she interacts with her customers on a daily basis. When you visit the shop you will immediately see how in tune she is with the latest fashions and accessories. It doesn’t stop there. Dorene is also very knowledgeable about trends in home furnishings, collectibles and fine art. So if you need to know something about any brand or style, Dorene is the person to see!
